Coles shopper taken aback by 'special delivery' from supermarket
The giveaways are set to be delivered to a select number of Aussies.
Aussie shoppers being gifted "special surprise" loyalty boxes from Coles are sharing their hauls online, revealing a generous list of products they scored for free.
While Australia's biggest retailers — including both Woolworths and Coles — have attracted criticism this year over their soaring product prices, while each business records billion-dollar profits, occasionally people also have praise to share.
Such is the case in this instance, with Aussies online sharing what they scored in the surprise gift packs, which are rewarded to Coles Plus members and are set to be delivered by Christmas. The Coles Plus subscription costs $19 a month and gives members access to exclusive online services and benefits.
Coles praised for freebies
"We believe in always giving more to our Coles Plus members, and that's why this festive season a surprise delivery is coming your way," an email of the promotion sent to one customer read. "Your Coles Plus gift box will include the below products to enjoy, all for free".
Included in this customer's bundle was a long list of products, including beverages, crackers, chocolate and chips. The full list is as follows:
Bundaberg Passionfruit Can 200ml
Nice & Natural Strawberry & Cream
Roasted Nut Bar 32g
S.Pellegrino Essenza Flavoured Sparkling Water Can 330ml
Peckish Fancies Chocolate & Roasted
Hazelnut Rice Crackers 90g
Vege Chips Mini Rice Crackers Pack 15g
But some question supermarket's motives
Online, people praised the supermarket, though many questioned the motive behind the giveaway.
"Your box is so much better than what I got," one shopper said. "Wonder if Woolies will follow for Everyday Extras members," said another.

"They’re just doing it as a complete PR job to detract from all the price gouging and bad press they were getting for ripping off every day Australians," a third wrote.
A number of others also claimed to have received a similar email, but had been yet to receive a gift box.
"I’ve gotten two emails and no boxes," one woman wrote. "I got an email saying I was getting stuff (different to this list) but never came," another said.
The specific details of the promotion and exactly who is eligible remains unclear at this stage. Yahoo News Australia has contacted Coles for clarity over the matter.
