Coles announces unique new item to Christmas menu
If you’ve felt like your recent Christmas celebrations have been lacking a bit of Aussie charm, Coles have the answer – albeit a pretty bizarre one.
The supermarket giant this week unveiled 150 new products that “provide a new twist on the classic Christmas”, but there’s one particular item that is sure to raise a few eyebrows.
After months of work with a team of chefs and nutritionists, Coles on Thursday announced their plans to release a sausage roll Christmas wreath.
Hitting stores on 26 November, the festive take on the Aussie classic contains mince, ham, roast veggies, cranberries and fennel, all wrapped in a wreath shaped pastry.
“Coles has worked with a team of chefs, product developers, nutritionists, farmers and food producers who have spent thousands of hours over the past year to perfect this new range and we know customers will be really excited about what has been created to make life easier for them this Christmas,” Coles Chief Operating Officer Greg Davis said.
Inspired by celebrity chef Curtis Stone, the supermarket is also putting a new twist on a seafood staple. Customers will be able to get their hands on the new lime and chilli infused prawns two weeks before Christmas.
“The prawns are sourced from family run business, Pacific Reef Fisheries, near Townsville and customers will simply be able to peel their prawns and enjoy the subtle zest of lime with the sweet hum of chilli,” a Coles spokesperson said in a statement.
In term of dessert, the range will also feature Christmas pudding flavoured ice-cream and a toffee apple wreath pudding.
