Clean-up concerns
The State Government has been called on to release all documentation relating to the Esperance lead clean-up following allegations yesterday there were "serious flaws" in the $27.5 million operation.
A Perth-based newspaper reported yesterday a senior clean-up worker had come forward with a raft of claims about the clean-up. But it could not identify the worker because a âconfidentiality agreement means he cannot be named or he faces jailâ.
Among the reported claims were that only half the roof spaces of a local unidentified primary school had been cleaned and many businesses and homeowners had opted out of having their properties decontaminated.
It also reportedly said other buildings had been bypassed for cleaning so the project deadline could be met and only 11 of 12 zones had been completed because of budget constraints.
Shadow Transport minister Ken Travers said if the allegations were correct, it would be âone of the biggest betrayals of a local communityâ in WA.
He was particularly concerned about the claim with regards to the primary school roof. âThat is just beyond belief if that is true,â he said.
