Cat found 'shot to death' on neighbour's lawn

A Perth family has been left heartbroken after the body of their beloved family cat was found with what appears to be bullet holes or stab wounds.

The RSPCA WA are investigating the death after the cat’s devastated owner found “her best friend”, Lukey, on a neighbour’s lawn in the city’s eastern suburbs.

“When I leaned over to pick him up it looked like there was a hole that looked like a bullet wound through his temple,” owner Tammy Wilson told 7 News Perth.

RSPCA suspect the wounds were inflicted by an air rifle or a sharp object.

Ms Wilson said Lukey had been part of the family for 12 years and teared up as she spoke about his death.

“It wasn’t a quick death for him. I think it was pretty horrific,” Ms Wilson said.

“The worst part is that he probably suffered.”

An RSPCA spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia on Wednesday the investigation was still ongoing and they did not have a person of interest.

Letters had been sent out in the area warning people about the cruelty and calling for anyone with information about the incident, including footage, to come forward.

The horrendous act comes after another family cat was found with deliberate injuries on Easter Sunday in the West Australian suburb of Greenfields.

Fortunately the cat survived with no permanent damage, the RSPCA WA spokesperson said.

Pet owners have been advised to keep pets indoors and stay vigilant.

The cat was found with guitar strings wrapped around its paws and it is believed the feline was trapped and tortured.

Animal cruelty in WA currently carries a penalty of up to five years imprisonment.
