Bush tucker cafe gets green tick

A cafe in Youngs Siding which has been serving up bush tucker for almost a decade has gained national recognition for best sustainability practice.

Bjorn and Claudia Form's business The Bushfood Factory and Cafe was granted eco-tourism and climate action certification last month from Eco-Tourism Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that recognises environmentally sustainable and culturally responsible tourism.

The cafe is the only one in Australia eco-certified under its program, according to Eco-Tourism Australia, while there are two restaurants with the qualification - Finch Hatton restaurant in Queensland and Saffrron in Darwin.

Mr Form said it was "a dream come true" for the pair, who were passionate about minimising their environmental footprint.

"Climate change is one of the biggest issues the world is facing today. We are very sensitive to this situation and have decided to do our fair share," he said.

He said their business was carbon neutral due to revegetation of native plants over the past nine years and the use of solar energy.

"We are extremely proud to be part of this very small world of businesses," he said.

Mrs Form said she hoped the "green tick of approval" would attract "likeminded people" interested in sustainability.

"We hope it might attract people who are interested in what we do here and to incite people to do their little share for the environment," she said.
