Bus and plane swallowed up by tide in Queensland beach calamity

A brave bus driver’s attempt to rescue a plane bogged on a Fraser Island beach has backfired.

A light tourist plane became the latest victim of Fraser Island’s notorious high tide when it was swallowed up north of Eurong on Wednesday afternoon.

A bus driver from Fraser Explorer Tours jumped into action to try and rescue the plane.

“We were just driving up the beach last night and saw the bus in the waves, nobody was around it was all on its lonesome just sitting in the waves,” the company told News Corp.

In front of stunned tourists, the bus driver tried to tow out the bogged plane but his rescue attempts quickly added to the problem when the explorer was washed out to sea.

The plane was eventually freed from the sand but the tour bus was not so lucky, spending the night in the ocean.

On Thursday morning a large tow truck and excavator returned to the scene where they eventually managed to pull out the bus.

The tour company said fortunately the seas were gentle overnight and caused minimal damage to the bus.
