Man accused of beheading housemate's dog as she moves out of home

A man has been arrested on suspicion of mutilating and beheading his housemate’s dog, because he claimed she was behind on her rent.

Jose Vega Meza, 21, told investigators that he killed the dog last Saturday because his housemate owed rent money to his mother, who owns the home in the Arizona, Phoenix city of Buckeye, police said.

The man’s roommate told police she lost track of her dog as she was moving out of the home, and saw Vega Meza trying to sneak a box onto her vehicle.

The woman opened the box to discover her headless dog inside. She was so distraught that she was unable to call authorities until the next day.

Vega Meza told investigators that he killed other animals around his neighbourhood, including a cat he said he drowned, court documents revealed.

He faces animal cruelty charges, in addition to attacking another inmate after he was jailed, investigators said.

Meanwhile, a Queensland woman believes her dog was poisoned by a disgruntled neighbour, who left a sinister note in her letter box hours before her pet died.
