Brazen thief caught on CCTV robbing funeral minutes after procession

The shocking footage has been released by police in a bid to track down the Melbourne thief.

Police are on the hunt for an opportunist thief who brazenly stole a woman's purse during a funeral procession late last month.

The shocking theft was captured on CCTV at a Glen Waverley funeral home — in Melbourne's southeast — at 3.15pm on November 29. The footage shows a man wearing a face mask walking though the parlour as guests were making their way outside to the chapel.

The man, who has black hair with shaved sides, can be seen in the video letting himself into the venue, quickly scanning inside before spotting the clutch purse.

He then tucks it away under his blue denim jacket and quickly flees the scene.

Victoria Police have described the man being aged between 25 to 35 years old and he is believed to be of Asian appearance. He was seen wearing a black hooded jumper, a blue denim jacket, light grey jeans, and white shoes.

Anyone with information about the crime, or who recognises the man in the footage, is being urged to immediately contact Crime Stoppers.
