Boy's heart-wrenching final words as he dies in mum's arms

A heartbroken mum has revealed the final words of her little boy as he died from cancer.

Charlie Proctor, 5, died on Saturday following a battle with liver cancer since 2016.

His parents Amber Schofield and Ben Proctor, from Lancashire, England had been desperately trying to raise money for specialist treatment in the US.

On Saturday, Charlie’s mum wrote he was beginning to look thinner and thinner.

She included the last photo of Charlie, cuddled up with him in bed.

“I can see and feel every bone in his tiny body, his sunken face, his rolling eyes. Where has my chunky baby gone?” Ms Schofield wrote.

She added her little boy was tired, fed up and depressed and told her, “I don’t know what to do anymore”.

“Mummy, I’m so sorry for this,” Charlie said.

Ms Schofield wrote her son felt like a burden to his family, and her “heart broke” on hearing him apologise.

“No child should feel the emotions Charlie is feeling,” the mum wrote.

“No parent should watch their child slowly go.

“Having to watch them deteriorate in this way is the most painful thing anyone will ever feel. If Charlie’s fate is to go, then I’d of rather the angels took him weeks ago before he suffered anymore.”

Ms Schofield later wrote Charlie “took his final breath” on Saturday about 11pm.

“He fell asleep peacefully cuddled in my arms with daddy’s arms wrapped around us,” she wrote.

“Our hearts are aching. The world has lost an incredible little boy.”

Ms Schofield added Charlie showed her “what love really means”.

“You have been, not only our biggest inspiration but you have been an inspiration to thousands of people all over the world,” she wrote.

The family were already resigned to losing Charlie in August believing he wouldn’t make it until Christmas.

They tried raising money for treatment after chemotherapy failed.

A GoFundMe page raised $175,000 but the couple realised treatment costs more than $1.9 million and decided to cancel fundraising efforts in favour of cherishing Charlie’s final days.
