Boy gnawed on by rat at school during nap time

A boy was gnawed on by a rat during nap time in the classroom, causing him to bleed from his wounds.

The four-year-old pupil Wang Ziyang, was sleeping in a classroom with his classmates when the rat found its way into his quilt.

The boy began crying when the rat started gnawing his fingers, drawing blood in the process and his teacher immediately ran over to check on the child.

Footage from the nursery school shows the teacher lifting up the crying boy’s quilt to find the rat dashing away on top of Ziyang and the child sleeping next to him.

The boy was taken to the Hefei Sixth People’s Hospital and given a rabies vaccination as well as interferon to fight any potential viruses carried by the animal.

It is unclear whether the rat was ever caught, but the nursery school’s principal, surnamed Bai, said the matter was being dealt with and refused to elaborate more.

Local officials now inspecting the school have called for a wholesale check on its surroundings as well as a thorough extermination of the pests.

The school is also expected to compensate Ziyang’s family for his ordeal.
