Bondi Junction stabbing: Reporter's emotional tribute to 'beautiful' mum killed in Westfield attack

The young mum is the sixth person to die after a knifeman went on a rampage through the shopping centre on Saturday.

A TV reporter has made an emotional tribute to the latest confirmed victim of the Westfield Bondi attack, revealing she personally knew the mother who'd been stabbed alongside her nine-month-old baby.

The young mum is the sixth person to lose their life after a knifeman went on a rampage through the shopping centre on Saturday. It's understood her baby is receiving treatment at hospital.

Sky News Australia anchor Laura Jayes broke down on air while reporting live from the scene on Saturday evening, admitting it was "the worst possible news" to hear the woman hadn't made it.

"I didn’t know the others but I knew one," Jayes told Peter Stefanovic in the Sky News studio. "I can tell you that it was a mother, a mother in the prime of her life, a new mother with a nine-month-old baby. She's a beautiful woman".

"Her baby went into surgery and her mum didn’t make it. That is really hard news to take," she continued through tears. "She was so smart, so beautiful and it was all ripped away in seconds."

Two men rush to save baby

Two men earlier described the moment they rushed to the woman's aid after witnessing her and her baby get stabbed by the attacker. The pair frantically used clothes from a store to stop the blood.

"The mother came with the baby bleeding, stabbed, and we got them into the store and just got them safe and then rang for help," one of the men told Nine News as shoppers spilled out onto the street.

"I just kept yelling out to get some clothes, get some shirts and just help us to compress and stop the baby from bleeding."

The woman was reportedly transported to St Vincent’s Hospital where she died from her injuries. Meanwhile, the infant was rushed to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick, 7News reported.

Jayes spoke of the woman's final bid to save her child's life — by passing the infant over to strangers.

"I can't imagine her needing to hand over the most precious thing in her life," Jayes said while reporting from Bondi. "They both went into surgery, her husband not knowing if either of them had survived... and now the worst possible news."
