Bondi Junction rampage: Unimaginable twist as officer responds to own fiancée's death

Dawn Singleton, 25, was among six people killed in Saturday's horrific massacre at Westfield Bondi Junction.

As tragic details continue to surface about Saturday's horrific Bondi Junction massacre, it's emerged that a responding NSW Police officer arrived on the scene to find out his fiancée, Dawn Singleton, was among those killed during the stabbing frenzy unleashed by killer Joel Cauchi.

The daughter of well-known Australian businessman and entrepreneur John Singleton, Dawn, was one of six people killed at the Westfield shopping centre in Sydney's eastern suburbs on Saturday afternoon.

According to several reports, her fiancé Ashley Wildey was on-call at the time and arrived at the centre where he was given the unimaginable news by his fellow officers. The 25-year-old Singleton was shopping for makeup for her wedding when Cauchi began attacking shoppers with a large knife.

Dawn Singleton's partner Ashley 'devastated' after arriving on scene

A friend of Dawn's spoke to The Daily Telegraph and revealed that Wildey was among the first responders. "He was on duty or on call, so she had gone shopping. She was outside Chanel," the unnamed friend said.

"He is devastated. He is getting a lot of help from NSW Police. They are looking after him. The whole wedding was booked. They used the same wedding planners as Kyle Sandilands." Wildey had finished his shift before the attack, but was redeployed as officers scrambled to manage the situation.

John Singleton calls Ray Hadley to confirm daughter's death

Ray Hadley of radio station 2GB also confirmed the tragic update. "The other officers intervened when he arrived there, apparently," Hadley said on air. "Tragically it was revealed to me that she had picked out a wedding dress… and booked the reception place in Arcadia in Sydney’s northwest," he said. "It is just incomprehensible."

Hadley said Dawn's father John rang him personally to see if he could verify his daughter was among those killed.

"I said, 'I don't want to tell you what I know, but I've got to tell you. And he was stoic and then gathered his family," Hadley said. "Obviously John is inconsolable as is [his wife] Julie."
