'Bloody terrible': Woman's fury at social distancing 'fail' in Coles supermarket
A Queensland woman has criticised Coles claiming the supermarket isn’t enforcing social distancing rules.
The woman was shopping at Coles Capalaba, southeast of Brisbane, on Sunday and wrote on Facebook, “I could at no point remain 1.5m distance”.
“The store was absolutely packed. The young boy said they allow 270 people in the store but I could see no one checking people out? This is why restrictions shouldn’t be changed just yet,” she wrote.
Last week, Coles announced it was limiting the number of people allowed in stores at any one time, asking customers to pack their own bags and placing stickers on the ground as a guide for shoppers to keep their space.
“We request that customers wash or sanitise your hands before entering the store and remind you to avoid touching your face, or any products you are not intending to purchase,” a statement on its website reads.
“In addition, government guidelines for supermarkets also recommend keeping a 1.5m distance where possible, particularly when queuing, as the most effective way to protect yourself and others.”
They’ve also closed every second self-serve checkout so shoppers don’t stand shoulder-to-shoulder.
But the woman claims the Capalaba store isn’t achieving this.

“Bloody terrible,” the woman wrote.
It comes after Coles shoppers vented about social distance ‘failures’ over the Easter long weekend.
