Big W recalls toddler outfits over choking fears

Big W has issued a product recall for two types of overall and T-shirt sets sold across Australia over choking fears.

The national retailer released a safety warning this week advising customers who have either purchased the garments, or whose child has received one as a gift, to stop using the product immediately.

In a statement, the company said takes the safety of the families who shop with Big W very seriously, and recalled the garments saying their “detached buttons may pose a potential choking hazard”.

The affected items are Dymples Infant Girls Overall and Tee Set sizes 000-2.

Affected animal print article numbers are 1079219, 1079218, 1079217, 1079230, 1079231.

The Pink Spot print article numbers are 1042341, 1042342, 1042343, 1042344, 1042345.

These can be found on the care instruction label.

The animal print set was available in stores from November 19 last year, and the pink spot set was sold from July 30 last year. Both were pulled from shelves on January 23.

Big W can confirm there have been no incidents reported with this product. The defect found is the buttons at the waist may detach from the garment,” the retailer said in a statement.

“Big W apologises to its customers for any inconvenience caused by this recall.”

The chain has advised customers to immediately stop dressing children in the overall and tee sets, and return them to any Big W store for a full refund.

The safety alert came after popular kidswear chain Ollie’s Place issued a product recall for a toy giraffe sold across Australia, as it was deemed a potential choking hazard to toddlers.
