Popular Big W kids item recalled over dangerous defect
An urgent recall has been issued for a series of children's footwear over a potentially deadly defect.
Caprice Australia’s light up thongs, which contain two button batteries, have been identified as a potential safety hazard.
Product Safety Australia says that the button battery compartment may be exposed over time, leaving the button batteries accessible.
“If young children gain access to the button batteries and ingest them, they may suffer severe internal burn injuries, which can result in serious illness or death,” the recall notice said.
“Button batteries also pose a choking hazard to young children.”

The product was sold nationally by Big W, both in store and online, between September 7 2020 and May 11 2022.
Customers are advised to stop using the shoes immediately and return them to any Big W store in Australia for a full refund.
