Big W customers discover secret product testing group - here's how to join

Big W customers are discovering that they can sign up to test out the store's latest products for free.

The retailer launched the Trusted Quality program through its market research division, Gather by Woolworths Group, late last year and began offering shoppers the opportunity to try a range of products.

Similar to the Woolworths Bunch testing program - which offers customers the opportunity to test and review supermarket products - shoppers are sent a range of random products to test over a period of time and then submit a review.

Products up for review by families include everything from women's and men's clothing and baby items, to kitchen items and cleaning products.

So far, product testers have been sent a range of items including cheese knives, a baby stroller, bath towels, women's leggings and microfibre cloths.

Putting Big W products to the test

A Big W spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia the program allows families to put their products to the real test.

"Products are put through their paces, tested with real customers and team members for four weeks and reviewed based on quality, value for money and product advocacy," the spokesperson said.

"We started with 25 everyday household products that have been family-tested by hundreds of Aussie households and given the Trusted Quality tick of approval."

There are plans to roll out more products across a range of categories including home office and stationery, which are currently being tested by customers.

"Over the coming months, more products will be put to the test across key categories filled with essentials for everyday family life," the spokesperson continued.

'I had no idea this existed'

While many shoppers were unaware Big W had a tester program in place, some have been lucky enough to be invited to join the program.

"Has anyone else received an email in regards to being a 'Tester'," one customer wrote in a Facebook group for Big W fans. "Today, out of the blue I received a parcel in the post. To my surprise, the parcel was a scrapbook and the box is full of school accessories. Amazing start to the week!"

Several members of the Facebook page said they had been contacted via email by Gather asking if they wanted to join and test family products as well.

"I got an email saying to expect a package. I'm waiting with excitement," one person wrote.

Meanwhile, others couldn't believe that such a group existed and wanted to join.

"How do you become a tester? This is so cool!" one Big W fan commented.

How to become a Big W family tester

According to the Gather website, the market research group is currently looking for new members.

Anyone can join Gather and become a Big W tester, but there are a few things you need to do to get started.

First up, you need to be a member of the Woolworths loyalty program, Everyday Rewards. You can sign up in-store or online.

Next, you'll need to do a five to 10-minute questionnaire about yourself and your household, your shopping habits, and the surveys or tester groups you'd like to participate in.

Once submitted the survey will be reviewed and if successful you will receive an invitation to join the program.

"Families who wish to join the program can sign up through the platform Gather by Woolworths Group and keep an eye out for Big W campaigns," the spokesperson said.
