Bali tourist plunges to death while filming sunset with girlfriend
The 22-year-old man was pronounced dead by police at the scene.
A 22-year-old tourist has died after falling off a 15-metre cliff in Bali while admiring the romantic sunset with his girlfriend on Tuesday evening.
Maximilian Alexandei Tenzer from Germany visited the popular lookout at Pura Luhur Srijong Beach with his 21-year-old partner Selina, and was filming the sun disappearing below the horizon when he slipped and tumbled down a ravine at Hindu temple Pura Luhur Srijong, local media reports.
Tabanan Police spokesman Gusti Made Berata said the German traveller was distracted by his mobile phone and accidentally wandered too close to the cliff’s edge.
Bali tourist wasn't paying attention
“Because the victim was not careful and didn’t pay attention to his steps, the victim didn’t realise he was on the edge of a cliff and fell down,” he explained, according to TribunJateng.
A distraught Selina shouted for help and contacted the taxi driver who had dropped them off before begging nearby residents for help. Police soon arrived in the area but could immediately tell the 22-year-old had succumbed to his severe injuries.
Footage posted on Facebook by Potsar Bhuana Bali Rescue show members walking through brush at the bottom of the cliff and locating Tezner’s body.
“After being checked, the victim was no longer conscious, his head was bleeding, his ears were bleeding, and he was dead,” Berata said, the publication reports.
