Bakery's note about 'rude' customers on their phones divides opinion

A heated discussion has been sparked after an image emerged of a bakery’s message to customers who are on their phones.

The picture of the country store’s note was shared on Reddit on Friday and reads: “Please do not get offended if we don’t serve you whilst you are talking on your phone.

n”If your phone call cannot wait, your food can. Thanks.”

A number of people were in complete agreement with the business, with one Reddit user calling the sign “amazing”.

It is unclear where the bakery is located.

“It is actually very rude and disrespectful. I understand why it would annoy service people,” a second person said.

The post also led to others sharing some arguably cringeworthy stories about encounters they had experienced due to someone’s inability to wait to take or make a call.

“I was once stuck behind a lady who took forever to order. As she was going through her bag to get her purse, her phone started ringing… so she answered, complete holding up the line,” one Reddit user recalled.

“I remember being a supermarket cashier a lady being on her phone the entire time I was serving her, finally hung up as I was handing over receipt and got a rude “Yeah I’m fine thanks for asking” because I hadn’t asked how she was yet,” another user wrote.

But not everyone was in favour of the business’s approach to tackle the issue.

“I have never understood this combative attitude some businesses take, it just seems petty,” one person wrote.

“Please do not get offended when I turn around and take my business elsewhere,” a different Reddit user responded to the sign.

A number of people also thought the message might have been lost in the sign’s wording.

“It’s way too verbose: “please don’t talk on the phone while you are being served” is all it needs to say.”

And according to another Reddit user it is not hard to avoid the situation altogether.

“I either ask my phone call if I can call back prior to standing in line or I don’t answer until I’m done,” they wrote.
