Australia Post workers held up by knife-wielding man in terrifying robbery

Police are appealing to the public for help to find the alleged thief who fled the post office on a scooter.

An alleged thief has stormed into an Australia Post office in Melbourne, pointing a knife at workers and demanding they empty the cash registers into his backpack.

The brazen scenes took place in front of a shocked customer, who was being served at the time of the incident.

Newly-released vision shows the man entering the Strathmore premises at 10.11am on March 31. Wearing a helmet, sunglasses and a face covering along with gloves, a hoodie and dark pants, the man is completely covered as he approaches the counter and opens his backpack.

A customer leaning against the counter quickly recoils and walks backwards towards the exit as a knife is pulled out.

A second employee opens a cash register and begins putting handfuls of cash into the offender’s open backpack, but the worker’s movements appear to be too slow for the man, as he gestures with his knife for the entire draw to be taken out and dumped into the bag.

Just one minute after he arrived, the man left, jumping on an electric scooter and fleeing the scene. Thankfully, no staff or customers were injured in the incident.

The accused is being described as Caucasian with a solid build. He was riding a Dualtron Eagle electric scooter which is missing the front guard. He was last captured on CCTV on Pascoe Vale Road in Pascoe Vale.

Police are asking for anyone who recognises the man, witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage from the area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
