Australia Post driver accused of 'pure laziness' after being caught on doorbell camera

The customer was fuming at the extra work created by the postie.

An Australia Post driver has been accused of “pure laziness” after failing to deliver a package while a man was at home.

In the 27-second clip captured on a security camera, the delivery driver can be seen buzzing the doorbell, empty-handed. Before the residents had a chance to answer the door, the driver had already walked off back to his van.

The package was not left at the front door, instead taken to the local post office. Steve, the man who captured the footage, said that it’s not only created more work for him by having to pick it up at the local post office, but also for Australia Post staff.

“How is this attempted delivery,” Steve asks on X, formerly known as Twitter.

'Frustrated' customer's rant about postie's act

In the frustrated post, the man explains he was home when the driver arrived at the front door in Bayswater, Victoria. He said there was “no package in his hands” and “now this has created more work for your staff and for us having to pick it up". "Pure laziness. Unacceptable!”

Yahoo understands that due to the 13kg weight of the package, the driver had left it in the van and waited in the driveway for an answer at the door.

"Australia Post delivers millions of parcels to Australians across the country every week, and the vast majority reach their destination safely and on time," a spokesperson said after investigating the incident.

"We have strict protocols in place for delivery drivers. Our usual process was not followed on this occasion, and we apologise to the customer. In instances where customers have concerns about their delivery, we encourage them to contact us on 13 POST (13 7678) so we can investigate."

Postie accused of sleeping on the job

It’s not the first time that an Australia Post delivery driver has been accused of being ‘lazy’. Last month, one postie was caught seemingly snoozing on the job in a comfy hammock.

The worker chose his sleeping station under a pergola in a public park in Banora Point in NSW's Northern Rivers and used his Australia Post bicycle to ostensibly provide a bit of privacy during his nap. After spotting the man, a local approached him to ask if "he was ok" before realising the worker was in fact sleeping.
