Australia Day scorcher: How your state will fare over blistering long weekend
Clear out the eskies and prep the blow-up pools – Australia Day is set to be a scorcher.
In what has been one of the hottest January’s on record, Australians continue to swelter in extreme heatwave conditions, with the long weekend set to be no exception.
Blistering temperatures that have reached just shy of 50 degrees continue to plague South Australia, while an emergency warning has also been issued for southern Tasmania where worsening conditions continue to fuel bushfires.
In what poses to be yet another gruelling hot spell, temperatures are again set to reach 40 degrees in parts of the country by the end of the week.
“Friday and Saturday we expect really hot conditions, with max temperatures out west to hit 43 to 47,” Sydney Bureau of Meteorlogy forecaster Jiwon Park told Yahoo7 News.
He said Sydney will see low 30s for much of the weekend before a cool reprieve by the public holiday on Monday.
Brisbane and Canberra will continue to feel the brunt of the summer heat, with temperatures set to reach highs of 33 and 39 respectively.
Adelaide is sweating again this week with daily top temperatures of 37, 39, and 44 on Thursday. Temperature then drop a little for the weekend with a more comfortable 30 degrees by Saturday.
Melbourne will reach top temperatures of 38 and 41 on Wednesday and Thursday before it cools down significantly for the weekend.
