Aussie woman hits back after being 'shamed' for common concert act

It isn't the first time and it certainly won't be the last time someone complains about it. But is sitting on someone's shoulders at a gig poor form?

Melbourne woman Kourtney certainly thinks so after forking out $140 on a ticket to see Rüfüs Du Sol on Thursday night. She took to TikTok to share video from the Flemington concert where four women can be seen on shoulders, effectively blocking the view for other revellers.

"You're ruining it for everyone," a man can be heard shouting in the background.

The quartet can be seen filming from their phones, obstructing the view of those behind.

"You pay $140 to see Rufus and this is your view," she captioned the video, which has already accumulated tens of thousands of views on Friday. And others agreed it was an infuriating situation to be in.

"Acceptable to throw any object you have in range," one person responded.

One user described the four in a row as a "human wall".

"They should stand at the back if they want to do this!" another said.

Woman filmed hits back after being 'shamed'

Yet one of the women filmed told Yahoo News Australia it was "disappointing" to be shamed online in the way they were.

"When I saw the TikTok I was definitely surprised as every concert or festival I've ever been to has involved people going up in front of me," concert attendee Emily said.

She admitted it can be "annoying" for those behind and could understand the complaints, but said she and her friends were only on shoulders for two minutes of what was a two-hour gig.

"To post it online and shame us for having a bit of fun is a bit disappointing."

Other users were also bemused by the complaint, suggesting people on shoulders is "part of the experience".

"What do you expect when you're at a concert," one person said.
