Aussie wakes to 'mind-blowing' $50 million lotto win after missed calls
The whopping $50 million Oz Lotto win is the third-biggest jackpot to be drawn in Australia this year.
UPDATE: A lucky Queenslander has awoken to the gob-smacking news that he is $50 million richer.
The Sunshine Coast winner held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1573 overnight and couldn't quite believe this morning that he has the "mind-altering" amount of money heading his way when he finally woke up and checked his phone.
"I’m sort of in shock. Is that true?" he laughed when Lott officials got in touch after a string of missed calls. "Oh my god! It’s not big, mate. It’s mind-blowing ... "I'm shaking."
"I slept peacefully last night as I’d left my phone in another room. I had no idea until I saw all the missed calls this morning. I thought, ‘that’s unusual’. Then I heard the voicemail and thought, 'this is getting weird'.
Aussies were earlier being urged to check their lotto tickets after last night's life-changing $50 million jackpot was drawn but the lucky winner was unable to be reached. The mega win represents the third-biggest of any lottery game so far in 2024, with officials imploring Queenslanders in particular to check their numbers.
So far this year, there's been a total of four Oz Lotto division one wins across Australia that in total have taken home $90 million — with two wins each in Queensland and NSW. Now, there's one lucky multi-millionaire out there who doesn't even know it.
The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said though the winning entry was linked to an online account in Queensland's southeast, but their phone continued to ring out.

"I was ready to confirm Oz Lotto’s newest division one winner straight after the results ... but sadly whenever I called the number provided, it just rang out and went straight to message bank," Hart said.
"If you see a number of missed calls on your phone, you could be the winner we’re trying to contact. You may not think it's possible you're the division one winner we’re searching for, but if you purchased an online entry into this week's Oz Lotto draw that you haven’t checked yet, you're in with a chance."

In addition to the sole division one winner in Tuesday's Oz Lotto draw 1573, there were also 14 division two winners who each pocketed a cool $49,961.40.
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1573 on Tuesday, April 9, were 18, 28, 2, 4, 1, 47 and 37, with the supplementary numbers being were 11, 24 and 27.
Across Australia, there was just one division one winning entry from Queensland.
