Aussie shop sells two $400k winning tickets in same Lotto draw

Despite all the odds, this is not the first newsagent to sell two winning tickets in one Lotto draw this year.

Winning the Lotto is rare, but having two winners buying from the same place in the same draw sounds almost impossible. Yet, against all odds, owners of an Aussie newsagency sold two separate winning division one entries in last Saturday's Lotto draw — each worth $400,000.

Paul and Sue Neagle opened the doors to their Niddrie newsagency in Melbourne in 1972 and have sold "27 division one entries" since then — but never two different players in one draw. They say they will "remember" this rare moment for "the rest of their lives".

"It’s so wonderful to have this milestone," Sue and Paul said. "Congratulations to the two winners and their families!"

One of the winners, a pensioner from Essendon, revealed this win was the "boost" he needed after battling ill health for some time. "I haven’t been well, and I can’t speak too well anymore because of it," he said. "This is wonderful — such a great boost [and] will help me so much."

The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto draw 4447 on March 2 were 19, 15, 18, 30, 5 and 8, while the supplementary numbers were 7 and 26.

Not the first newsagents to sell two winning entries this year

According to The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell, the chances of winning division one in Lotto on one standard game is about "one in eight million" — so having two winners buying from the same place is even rarer.

Despite this, Blacktown Newsagency in Sydney sold two million-dollar entries in the same Lotto draw on January 31. "They say good things come in threes — perhaps another outlet will sell two as well?" Anna said.
