'Accidental' Powerball entry bags Aussie woman $5 million: 'Oh my God'

The woman was in shock after her Powerball win and was almost lost for words.

An incredible "accidental purchase" has made an Aussie family $5 million richer after Thursday night's Powerball draw.

A Queensland woman from Bahrs Scrub revealed that her husband "normally" bought their lotto entries but because of some issues while trying, she jumped online to do it instead.

"It was almost an accidental purchase" she said. "He figured it out and bought an entry, but by that stage, so had I!" This meant the pair ended up with double the entries.

The winner was in shock speaking to The Lott officials on the phone on Friday morning to confirm the win. "I don’t even know what to say. I’m sorry, I’m just struggling to process this news," she said before it began to sink in. "Oh my God, our mortgage is gone — this is going to change our life!"

The woman and her husband plan to not only pay off their mortgage but book an "overseas holiday" and look at new "business ventures".

She held the only division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1447 and the winning numbers were 25, 12, 6, 20, 26, 16 and 7. The all-important Powerball number was 2.

Lucky 'trends' for Powerball plays

The Lott has shared some of the lucky "trends" based on previous division one winners for those eager to follow in the Bahrs Scrub woman's footsteps.

Last year more than half of the division one winning tickets were the automated QuickPicks and PowerHit entries, a ticket which guarantees the entrant the all-important Powerball number. The Bahrs Scrub winner had chosen a QuickPick entry. The Lott also revealed there are certain numbers which have been selected more than others — numbers 2, 3, 7, 9, 11 and 17 have been drawn more frequently from the main barrel, while 2 and 19 have out-performed as the Powerball number.
