Aussie police hailed over 'awesome' act: ‘What legends’

Queensland coppers have won themselves 10 million new fans after making a young boy’s summer holidays.

In a series of videos which have since blown up on TikTok with the hashtags “winners are grinners” and “is that all you’ve got”, seven-year-old Chase Keith can be seen ‘racing’ local Gladstone officers on his hoverboard with a go-kart attachment on Friday.

“Go,” a man’s voice can be heard yelling as a police patrol car drives into the shot outside a Tannum Sands caravan park before the young boy takes off. Accelerating across the grass by the side of the road, the keen go-kart driver pushes ahead of the officers who trail him just a second behind.

Not to be outdone though, police circle back for a “re-run” according to Chase's dad, and while pulling up alongside the eager racer, the officers flick their lights on.

“Wait, wait for it,” voices can be heard calling out in a third clip of the race of the year. “On your marks, go!”

In front of a cheering crowd, the seven-year-old zooms across the ground with the officers in hot pursuit but it’s another victory for the hoverboard hero.

Chase's father Josh Keith applauded the actions of cops as “really brilliant.”

“The first time he was just racing them as they went passed,” he told Yahoo News Australia. “When they came back a couple of hours later, they slowed right down and put their lights on!”

“We spoke to them the day after as it blew up on TikTok very quickly, and they enjoyed it just as much as my son did!”

While Tannum Sands police confirmed to Yahoo News Australia that the young motor head escaped without a fine.

“There was no traffic infringement notice issued,” Senior Constable Paul Miers said before adding that he was shocked that the videos went viral.

“It's just one of those cute scenarios,” he commented. “He obviously saw us and wanted to out run us, so we played along with him and gave him the thumbs up.”

“We did another troll passed and the kid was there again, lined up, so I activated the lights for him. I thought he would get a buzz out of seeing the lights coming up!”

Officers celebrated for ‘joining in the fun’

The three videos, which were posted to TikTok on Friday and Saturday, have since racked up more than 10 million views.

“That’s so awesome,” one person wrote. “That is so sweet,” said another. “[What] a wholesome moment,” added someone else.

While others pointed out that the police pulled off a sneaky manoeuvre to ensure the end result.

“[I] love the fact you see them brake to let him go ahead,” one user said. “I’ve never laughed so much in my life, it’s good that the police let him win,” wrote another.

“What legends, this is the kind of stuff that gives cops respect,” someone else commented. “[Good] on your little fella too [for] putting on a show.”

“I’m on caravan site 100 and saw this, [it was a] very cool police interaction,” another said.

While others praised the police for “joining in the fun” following a devastating few weeks for Queensland with the death of two officers while on duty in Wieambilla, west of Brisbane.

“After everything Queensland police have been through, this is so beautiful to see,” wrote one person. “My favourite thing is these type of interactions, especially this time of the year, it is definitely something they need,” said another.

“Bless the boys and girls in blue,” someone else added. “No place like Australia.”
