Aussie diner tipped for good fortune after 'one-in-11-billion' meal

Cafe customers are suggesting the diner picks up a lottery ticket.

An Aussie diner has no idea how lucky they are after unknowingly eating a meal with an exceptionally rare quadruple-yolk egg.

The cafe that served the egg, with odds of one in 11 billion, was in Orange, NSW. Owners excitedly posted an image of the egg online and explained that the diner who ate the egg had no idea how rare what they ate truly was.

“One in 11 billion chance of getting a 4 yolk egg,” the cafe, owned by Simonn Hawke and Leah Morphett, shared online. “And we got one [at Birdie]! Can you believe it? Someone ate it without knowing as well hahaha I hope it brings them and us good fortune.”

It’s believed that the egg was sourced from Canobolas Eggs in Molong, NSW, according to Central Western Daily.

Customers share the cafe's excitement

Many customers were quick to comment on the image of the egg.

“Oh my gosh, that’s amazing,” said one person. “Lotto ticket needed for sure.”

“First one I’ve ever seen,” shared another.

“Wow,” marvelled a third. “Never have I seen that.”

While rare, it’s not unheard of

It’s believed that one in every thousand eggs on average is a double-yolker, the odds of a quadruple yolk are 11 billion to one according to the British Egg Information Service.

Earlier this year, Chris Tulley, 26, and partner Ciaran Duffy, 36, couldn't believe their eyes when they initially found three double yolks in a row before cracking a fourth egg with four yolks inside.

The pair from Sheffield quickly bought a lottery ticket hoping the find was a sign of good luck but were left disappointed when they didn't win a penny.
