Online fitness guru slammed for filming video in car with son in back seat
Social media fitness star Ashy Bines has been criticised online for filming herself sitting at traffic lights with her one-year-old in the back seat.
The Gold Coast trainer posted a video, which she shot on her phone while in the driver's seat of her car, to Snapchat on Monday afternoon and lashed out at those tempted to "tell her off" for it.
A Queensland Police statement said it is illegal for anyone to use their mobile phone while driving, even if the person is stopped in traffic.
In the video, the 27-year-old mother said she was sitting at traffic lights and on her way to "get some stuff for dinner".
"My little man has had two massive naps today," Ms Bines said.
“What a chill little boy, he is really dribbly the moment.”
“And before anyone tells me off for Snapchatting at the traffic lights, just don’t bother."
A statement from police said drivers can be fined $365 and get three demerit points on their driving record if their mobile phone is in their hand for any reason while driving.
"Including when you're stopped at traffic lights or in congested traffic," the statement said.
Ms Bines is well-known for helping women get the "perfect bikini body" with her "12-week Bikini Challenge" and her business has boomed due to her popularity on social media.
Student paramedic Carly Jacka, who follows the fitness guru on social media, told Yahoo7 that her "heart raced and her palms were sweating" when she saw Ms Bines taking part in the "illegal and dangerous activity".
"I love Ashy and her movement! Don't get me wrong; she has changed my life," Ms Jacka said.
"But... this shocked me, and is upsetting to see.
"Not only is this action illegal. But it can also be deathly."
Ms Jacka said she has previously watched harrowing videos of "wrecked cars", which included "traumatic screams and dead bodies".
"I've known of people left with brain damage, spinal injuries and broken bones," she said.
"She [Bines] has her one-year-old in the backseat.
"Even if she tries to defend herself saying she was parked, she is literally telling people 'to get over it' for Snapchatting herself at traffic lights."
