Amazing video shows kookaburra thrashing large snake to death

An amazing life and death battle between a kookaburra and a python in north Queensland has been caught on camera by stunned onlookers.

Remarkable footage shows the bird sitting on a fence, with the snake hanging from its beak.

The kookaburra thrashes the snake against the fence multiple times as the reptile reaches out to bite the bird in a last-ditch attempt to break free.

The struggle continues for several minutes as the snake’s condition appears to deteriorate with the repeated blows and the tight grip of the blue-winged kookaburra.

US woman Lauren Rapoport, who is currently on a divemaster course at Pleasure Divers in Arcadia on Magnetic Island, managed to capture footage of the exciting encounter.

“It was truly a battle of life and death, every time the snake would inch it’s way up to wrap around or try to bite the Kookaburra, the Kookaburra would whip the python onto the fence post,” she explained to Yahoo News.

She and several other divers stood and watched in amazement as the pair fought it out for well over half an hour.

“Unfortunately at the point I coughed the bird went flying off into the trees with its very tired and weak prize,” she said.

Ms Rapoport said while she understood it was nature, the group found it “sad the snake lost”.

“It was fascinating to see,” she admitted.

The encounter comes just a a week after wildlife expert Tim Faulkner spotted a fascinating battle to the death between a Huntsman spider and a lizard in WA.
