Incredible video captures battle between spider and lizard
A remarkable fight to the death between a Huntsman spider and a lizard has been caught on camera.
Wildlife expert Tim Faulkner was in WA’s Kimberley region, in search of a rough-scaled python this week when he heard rummaging in nearby leaves.
He was spotlighting for fellow experts, when he quickly turned his camera to reveal a nail-biting battle between two miniature predators.
Remarkable footage shows the pair thrashing about on top of a rock with the lizard trying its best to escape.
Moving to the ground, the Huntsman then sinks its teeth into the throat of the lizard, which has no answer to the spider’s grip.
Mr Faulkner told Yahoo News the fascinating battle went on for more than 10 minutes.
“It was certainly something most people wouldn’t have seen before,” he said.
He said as soon as he turned the camera, the spider jumped into action.
“I moved and bang, it hit it,” he said.
Mr Faulkner said despite his years of experience he couldn’t pinpoint the species of spider but said it most likely belonged to the Huntsman family.
He identified the lizard as a carlia, a type of skink.
While thinking there was a chance of escape for the lizard at one point, the expert, who stars in the TV show Outback Adventures with Tim Faulkner, said the lizard eventually succumbed to the venom from the spider.
“At one point I thought the lizard was going to get away but it turned out it wasn’t a happy ending for it.
“It truly was a battle royale of the mini-beasts!”
The tense encounter comes just days after a ferocious tussle between a goanna and python was also caught on camera in the state.
