Agents take peek at Quarter

The Quarter project in Karratha is about 15 per cent complete.

Karratha real estate agents and business owners were given a quick look behind the fence at the construction site of The Quarter last Friday.

The behind-the-scenes tour was part of an official launch of stage one of construction of the project, which is 15 per cent complete.

The $53 million project is being built by Doric Contractors on behalf of LandCorp and property group Mirvac.

The completion date is estimated for April next year.

Mirvac residential group executive John Carfi said there was obviously a level of uncertainty in Karratha at the moment.

"One of our philosophies around our real estate is quality locations and quality product," he said.

"Once the local market starts to understand the quality offering within this particular stage of development, we think it will be well sought after and attract a great deal of locals."

Mr Carfi said the development of the city centre and their on-hold Mulataga Estate beyond Bulgarra were effectively linked.

"One provides access to the other but also they're linked because we think the more Karratha has to offer in terms of amenity and better quality built form, it will make it a more attractive place to live," he said.

LandCorp chief operating officer Nicholas Wolff said they were still working on getting a private developer for the second stage of the project which would include a proposed hotel.

He said they would know more by the end of April or beginning of May. Stage one of The Quarter will include the development of a four-storey building with about 6000sqm of retail and office space, 46 service worker apartments, a decked carpark and a public square layout.
