Adelaide man critical after suspected hit and run at Elizabeth Vale

A man is in a critical condition after a suspected hit and run in Adelaide's north last night.

The ambulance service said the man was being treated on the side of Main North Road by paramedics just after 8:30pm when he ran onto the road and was hit by a car headed south.

Officers said paramedics were called to the scene after a report of an unconscious man and arrived before the accident.

However, the ambulance service said when the paramedics arrived, the man regained consciousness, refused treatment and ran onto the road.

The 32-year-old man from Elizabeth Grove was taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital and later transferred to the Royal Adelaide.

Police were called to the scene, arriving after the man was struck.

They said they were looking for a dark-coloured car that was believed to have sustained significant damage to the windscreen.
