Actor Rick Moranis is randomly attacked by stranger in NYC

Actor Rick Moranis, who starred in Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Ghostbusters, has been hospitalised after being punched in broad daylight.

The New York Police Department said they are searching for a man after another man was assaulted on Central Park West in Manhattan on Thursday about 7.24am.

Video shows the man punching a man on the footpath before walking off. The victim is seen falling to the ground.

Moranis’s management confirmed the 67-year-old was the victim of the attack.

Troy Bailey, a rep for Moranis, said in a written statement on Friday Moranis “is fine but grateful for everyone’s thoughts and well wishes”.

Moranis took himself to the hospital and later went to a police station to report the incident, according to the official, who was not authorised to speak publicly about the incident and did so on condition of anonymity.

He suffered back, hip, neck and head pain, though the full extent of his injuries was not clear, the official said.

The spot where Moranis was assaulted was actually just a few blocks from where his character lived in Ghostbusters.
