Teen's desperate pleas for help to friend while trapped under rolled car

A teenager is in a coma after he and two others survived a spectacular crash when their car flipped and slammed into a Melbourne primary school.

The out-of-control car hurtled through a fence and ploughed into Dandenong Primary School on Foster Street about 1.50am on Thursday.

Despite the three involved miraculously surviving the crash as the VW sedan lost control travelling around a bend, one was left trapped under the vehicle after being flung out during impact.

Witnesses rushed to the aid of the seriously injured teen crying for help, pushing the vehicle off him.

One of the men who was in the car can be seen walking away, appearing to ignore the 18-year-old's pleas.

"They are lucky they're alive at this time," Victoria Police Inspector Mark Langhorn said.

A 29-year-old from the vehicle was arrested and was initially unwilling to cooperate with officers.

"We do believe excessive speed was involved and we are looking at whether distraction in the car was involved as well," Insp Langhorn said.

Before the car rolled over the school fence, the sedan left a trail of destruction along Foster Street, smashing through a traffic light and tearing through a metal sign.

Prior to the crash police were called to a nearby McDonald's with the trio seen arguing inside their car with a fourth man, who got out and walked away.

Fifteen minutes later, they crashed two kilometres down the road.

"Just shows the dangers of what can occur in a car and obviously these males, by the sounds of it, were up to no good amongst themselves and fighting within the car," Insp Langhorn said.

The 29-year-old man was later released from police custody.

The other two males were taken to hospital, with the 18-year-old freed from under the vehicle in an induced coma.

Police are yet to determine whether the car was stolen.

Charges are expected to be laid.
