Cat owner heartbroken after beloved pet targeted in horrific attack

A cat in Victoria has sustained serious injuries after being shot in the face in a shocking case of animal abuse.

Eddy's owner, Grant Craigen, from Clifton Springs, has been left heartbroken after his beloved pet was left with a shattered jaw.

"The only time he is really calm is when he's sitting with me," Mr Craigen said.

The four-year-old's jaw has been glued shut after he was shot in nearby parkland.

"Basically it's hit the lower jaw, snapped that in half, broken nine teeth and the bullets lodged in another part of his mouth."

When Mr Craigen first saw Eddy's injuries, he thought he'd been hit by a car.

"It wasn't until the operation they pulled a pretty good little bullet out of him," he said.

The cruel act has left Eddy feeding through a tube. Mr Craigen now wants answers as to what was going through the mind of his attacker.

"As far as I know he doesn't cause any trouble in the neighbourhood," he said.

Mr Craigen has been forced to take time off work so he can care for his beloved pet, with vets saying it could take months for his mouth to heal.

It's the second cat shot in the area in two months. The other victim's leg had to be amputated.

An investigation by RSPCA Victoria is underway while police are eager to speak with the attacker.

"They're family pets, so we want to find out who's done this," Senior Constable Stephen Hutchison said.

Mr Craigen is also keen to have words with Eddy's attacker.

"An apology would be nice, and a reason," he said.
