Man and two children killed in devastating house fire

Two children and a man have died in a devastating house fire in Queensland.

Neighbours managed to save a five-year-old boy who was screaming for help through a window of the burning Kingaroy home and somehow the charred family home is still standing.

Police said passerbys noticed smoke coming from the eaves of the house on their way to the shopping centre.

Two men ran over to help but the house was locked. They heard the five-year-old boy screaming and banging on a window.

The pair smashed their way in and pulled the boy to safety. A male resident and two other children never made it out.

"The fire was pretty severe so what they did was courageous," Sargent Ronald Reynolds said. "Three deaths in this tragic circumstance, this is very sad."

It is understood the young boy's mother was down the road when the fire started.

Both were taken to Kingaroy Hospital where the boy is being treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire started at one end of the home and spread quickly.

The property will remain a crime scene as investigators work to piece together what caused the deadly blaze.

"We have no idea at the moment, that'll all be investigated once the specialists get here," Sgt Reynolds said.

The home underwent renovations two years ago which will form part of the investigation.

"I'm sure the locals will mourn this for quite a while," Sgt Reynolds said.
