The bizarre ending to an apparent road rage incident on a busy highway
An apparent road rage incident on a congested freeway has had a bizarre ending, with an SUV winding up on its side in the road's shoulder.
In the video, which has been viewed more than seven million times on social media since Thursday, a woman can be heard speaking about the altercation unfolding reportedly on State Route 78 in San Diego county.
As the clip begins one man exits his convertible, believed to be a BMW, on the freeway and appears to yell and wildly gesticulate at the driver of an SUV.
The large vehicle moves slightly into the shoulder of the highway but pauses as the BMW driver continues his tirade.
The SUV driver then puts his head out the window and, according to the woman on the video, one man spits at the other, before the man returns to his BMW.
The SUV accelerates and clips the convertible, before flipping and landing on its side.
It is not known what caused the altercation, however the woman on the recording says something about a driver being cut off.
According to NBC7 authorities have said both drivers may face charges, with the SUV driver arrested on suspicion of felony assault.
California Highway Patrol officer Hope Maxson said, "You cannot take your vehicle and veer it at a person. That's assault with a deadly weapon."
It is reported that misdemeanour charges against the BMW driver will be forwarded to the local district attorney's office.
