Shocking Snapchat video of plastic bag put over Melbourne toddler's head sparks police hunt

WARNING, DISTRESSING CONTENT: Police located a toddler safe and well after videos appearing to show child abuse were posted to social media on the weekend.

The Snapchat videos show two people running water over the toddler and putting a plastic bag over the child's face.

“We’re not child abusing them, we’re just teaching them discipline,” a male said in the video.

“Making sure they’re not dead, but they can’t breathe,” he added as the confronting footage played.

Another video shows a male and a female claiming to be the child's parents, with the female telling the camera: “That’s our child, and you’re not going to teach us how to treat our child”.

Some of the captions accompanying the distressing video read: "I can't believe he is steal [sic] alive", and "He is dying".

In a statement, Victoria Police said officers have spoken to a teenage girl after they tracked the videos to a house at Preston, in Melbourne's northern suburbs.

"Concerns were raised for the safety of a toddler as the result of a video and photos posted," police said.

"The toddler has been located safe and well."

It is unclear whether the videos were staged.
