Young woman reduced to tears by train passenger's incredible gesture

A young train passenger, stressed about her struggling financial situation, has been left in tears by a kind-hearted stranger’s incredible gesture.

Ella Johannessen had just boarded a Virgin Trains East Coast service from Kings Cross in London to Leeds when she decided to call her mum to discuss a bank transfer that she was heavily relying on.

“I found a seat and rang my mum. I was rather stressed and upset over my financial situation and was trying to locate what had happened to £35 ($61) that had been sent to me over a bank transfer,” she wrote in a touching Facebook post.

“I spoke to her about how little money I had, how worried I was about my finances and I got upset.”

The emotional 23-year-old ended the call and went to take a nap, unaware of the complete stranger who had just overheard her concerns.

Waking up half an hour later, she was immediately reduced to tears when she found a napkin on her lap with more than $170 (£100) underneath it.

“I started to cry - this is because I was incredibly thankful for your kindness to someone you don't even know,” she added.

“After a terrible 18 months where I lost my father and both of his parents it showed me that there is kindness and good people in the world."

Sharing details of the incredible gesture on Facebook, Ms Johannessen urged everyone to share the post so the person responsible would know just how much it meant to her.

“I will pass your kindness on. I want to say thank you to the person who gave me this gift, I hope you will eventually see this.”
