Larrikins spend Australia Day cruising down Brisbane River on makeshift raft
A crew of Aussie larrikins has caused a stir in Brisbane after setting sail down the city's river on a makeshift raft.
The mates told 7 News some of them made a trip to Bunnings to buy material on Thursday night, before whipping up the vessel.
The young men assembled it on Friday morning and spent Australia Day cruising through town.
The group said they spent a couple of hours on the water, where they were flanked by a police boat for part of their paddle from West End to South Bank, and back again.
At first they travelled with the tide as it went out but the trip back was not as easy.
"Against it a bit in the last hour. It was struggles, but you know you put your hard work in you get there," one of them told 7 News.
They set out hoping to make it to Kangaroo Point but with the warm weather, the tide, and the authorities - it was not meant to be.
Thousands of other Queenslanders flocked to the water to spend the public holiday, and some revellers on the Gold Coast had a similar idea with a floating pontoon being towed by a jetski around the Isle of Capri.
