'This is why you get killed': Truckie films seething overtake of cyclists on country road

A truck driver who filmed a group of cyclists as he overtook them slammed their behaviour which he claims put their "own lives at risk".

Charlie Butt was behind the wheel of his B-double on Saturday as he encountered a group of cyclists riding two abreast along rural Granya Road near the NSW-Victoria border, Fairfax Media reported.

His footage shows the moment he was forced onto the wrong side of the road to pass the group.

He delivers an expletive-laden tirade at the group saying their actions could prove fatal.

"This is why you f******* get f****** killed," he says, labelling the riders "f****** idiots".

But one of the cyclists has hit back at Butt's footage which appears to have been filmed on a mobile phone.

"If he's filming with his phone, using a mobile while driving in a great B-double like that, one hand on the wheel and one hand on his phone … if anyone's dangerous, it's not us," lawyer James Sloan said.

Butt has claimed the footage was filmed from a GoPro attached to headwear and the portrait footage is down to a setting on the device.

He says that when drivers are forced into oncoming traffic because of groups of cyclists, such manoeuvres could prove fatal for either party.

"The bike riders are putting their own lives at risk and they don't know it."

However Sloan says cycling two abreast minimises the risk of a collision as it encourages motorists to overtake rather than "sneak past".

VicRoads also believes two abreast along roads is the safest option as it improves the visibility of cyclists.

The clip was shared to Facebook and garnered over 150,000 views before it was removed on Monday.

Sloan says he was surprised by the video being posted and suggested he was unsure what Butt's problem was, suggesting it was merely because he dislikes cyclists.

He also said he wants Victoria to start using the one metre passing rule other states use as this wasn't the first time he had received abuse from other road users.
