WATCH: Cyclist flees crash scene after skipping red light, colliding into car

A cyclist has been filmed skipping a red light at a busy intersection in Sydney’s inner-west before ploughing into the side of the car and fleeing the scene.

Michael Scerba was preparing to turn left onto a road in Alexandria when the brazen cyclist emerges on the screen, swerving around the maroon car in his path and attempting to sneak into the busy lane.

Mr Scerba said he didn’t even see the cyclist until it was too late.

“I think he was trying to go on the footpath, the maroon car blocked him, so he swerved and nearly got hit by the white car and instead ran into me,” he said.

Dashcam footage shows the cyclist fly off his bike and onto the bonnet of Mr Scerba’s car.

“I didn't see him until a second before he collided into me. Being concerned that I could have seriously injured this person, I pulled over,” he added.

The cyclist didn’t have the same mind-set though, jumping back onto his bike and speeding off down the road.

“Would love to have gotten this guy's ID, because now I'm left with a fat dint in my car and a 15cm black scratch on the hood,” Mr Scerba added.

“Why aren't cyclists being forced to get register their bikes if they use the roads?”

Unlike the cyclist, social media users saw red when the footage emerged online, demanding they abide by the same road rules as all other vehicles.

“Cyclists should have the same rules as cars,” came one comment on Facebook.

"Be fined the same as well. This guy went on a red, cut off a car and then a hit and run. He needs to have his bike impounded for all that."
