Man attacks comedian with bar stool after he makes joke about crowd

A heckler has stormed the stage at a US comedy show, using a microphone stand and bar stool to violently attack a comedian in front of a stunned crowd.

American comic Steve Brown was barely halfway through his show at the Comedy House in South Carolina when it became apparent not everyone was a fan of his material.

Witnesses say Brown jokingly questioned a man, known as Marvin, “what his problem was” as he sat there visibly unimpressed.

But when the comic pressed him again, asking what he was doing at a comedy show if he didn’t want to laugh, things took a violent turn.

Footage captured from the right of stage shows the furious crowd member storm the stage before grabbing hold of the microphone stand.

Brown narrowly manages to avoid a few wild swings before his attacker throws the stand in his direction, reportedly injuring two members in the crowd.

The pair square off around the stage before the raging man starts using the bar stool as a weapon.

Two men eventually rush onto the stage in an attempt to diffuse the situation, eventually escorting the attacker from the stage.

Brown later took to Instagram, showing the deep cut he suffered from a blow to the microphone stand, adding that there was inadequate security at the venue.

“This unprovoked attacked that happened to me tonight is a reminder of why these comedy clubs should have well equipped professional security to protect us entertainers who bring their club so much money,” he wrote.

“I thank God for looking out for me and giving my old a** the ability to bob and weave because this could have ended in a horrible way.”

An incident report from Richland County Sheriff’s Department said the attacker had been drinking.
