Outrage as Easter eggs on sale before Christmas Day

Before the northern hemisphere even had a chance to unwrap Christmas presents, last minute shoppers spotted Easter eggs on UK store shelves.

The goods sold four months ahead of the other major holiday caused quite the stir on social media, with shoppers outraged to find the Easter treats as on Christmas Eve.

"Easter deliveries for the co-op began on Thursday [December 21] and we had all our actual Easter Eggs delivered today," a spokesperson for convenience chain Co-op Food tweeted on December 25.

"The seasonal promotion changes to Easter on Boxing Day so we need the stock ready ☺," they added.

It was a similar story over at British retailer WJ Smith.

On the other side of the globe, we're not sure if this bloke from Sydney is pulling our leg or...

Aussies with a hankering for Easter treats were told to sit tight, with chocolate eggs and hot cross buns still weeks away from lining our shelves.

A NSW woman was disappointed to learn she would have to wait a while to satisfy her cravings, after asking Coles if she was able to sink her teeth into their hot cross buns yet.

"Unfortunately Hot Cross Buns aren't in store just yet!" a spokesperson tweeted in response.

"We're sorry to say that you'll have to wait a little while longer for them."

A Canberra woman with a post-Christmas desire for the doughy delight pushed Woolworths for the inside scoop, but found no luck there either.

Another hot cross bun aficionado cannot wait either.

For now, Aussies will have to fill the void with leftover Christmas plum pudding and pavalova.
