Woman tells husband she was raped after night out, finds out he did it

A woman who confided in her husband after she was raped following a night out later discovered that her attacker was in fact her partner.

The victim had become heavily drunk following an argument with the 35-year-old man before a member of the public called him to collect her from a roadside bench in Reading, UK, in May 2016.

Reading Crown Court was told on Friday that when they got home, he raped his wife as their children slept.

“You drove her home and the inevitable conclusion of the jury was you then raped her while she was unable to consent, as a result of the alcohol she had consumed," Judge Alexia Durran said at the man's sentencing.

He was later caught out by DNA testing after he reluctantly told his wife she should call the police when she feared she had been sexually assaulted, The Sun reported.

The judge revealed CCTV footage shows she headed to a bar following the argument and drank a “considerable amount of alcohol” before leaving “completely intoxicated” at about 1am on May 14.

In a police interview the husband revealed his wife was "very drunk, barely coherent and had trouble talking" when he picked her up and took her home before raping her.

A statement from the victim read to the court by the judge revealed the devastation her husband's betrayal caused.

“She described the total and utter shock upon finding out the person responsible was you, her husband," Judge Durran said.

The man was handed a seven year jail sentence and was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
