WATCH: Unidentified object caught on camera 'crashing to earth'

A bizarre flash of green light falling from the sky has been captured on video but no one is sure exactly what it is.

A camera near the waterfront at St John’s in Canada’s east captured the moment the light streaked across the sky, falling into darkness as it crashes on Monday night local time.

Some believe whatever the object was it may have landed on Earth.

Andrew Wilkins was eating at a nearby pub when he saw the light and told CBC News the light was like “a big green ball of fire” but the noise at the bar kept him from hearing any sound it may have made.

Mr Wilkins said he initially thought it was a firework but realised they don’t shoot downwards.

He said it looked like it “may have actually” landed on the ground.

Krista Godfrey was across town in her living room and saw the light describing it was “the biggest thing” she’d seen “in terms of a meteor or meteorite”.

Ms Godfrey said it reminded her of the Orionid meteor shower, which usually appears for one week in October.

Local police said it had received calls about the mysterious light but there had been no reports of fire or injury.
