Mystery surrounds death of wildlife lover after body found near uncaged pet python

A UK man has been found dead in his home with serious injuries, with his uncaged pet snake found nearby.

Dan Brandon, 31, owned several snakes including a huge python, which was found out of its cage near its unresponsive owner.

Brandon was found with "serious injuries" at his Hamshire home, with the death not being treated as suspicious, The Mirror reports.

One line of inquiry is that the pet snake was involved.

It's believed it could be the first time a snake has killed a human in Britain.

The wildlife lover's Facebook profile was littered with photos of him and various reptiles.

There are several images of what appears to a be a large Burmese python, wrapped around his body and neck.

In one image they're seen on the floor together.

It is one of the largest species of snake in the world, growing to 12ft in length on average.

An inquest into his death may be opened but at this point it is "an investigation stage between natural causes and inquest", a source told The Sun.

"Investigators are waiting for the full toxicology results and reports to come back from a post-mortem."

Friends of Dan set up a JustGiving page to raise money for the Worldwide Fund for Nature.

"He was obsessed with snakes, spiders, birds and all wildlife," the page said.

"We will all miss you so much."
