The 43-year-old is accused of smuggling prohibited goods into the low security Cadell prison, where she worked as a guard for almost two years.

She was arrested in July after an investigation by the anti-corruption watchdog, but only now can her identity be revealed.

It’s alleged the charges were laid after the discovery of a love letter revealing an inappropriate relationship between Stretton and a male inmate.

The letter sparked a search of the prisoner's cottage, which allegedly uncovered cannabis inside a Kinder Surprise chocolate treat.

Seven News understands mobile phones were also seized.

Stretton’s involvement is yet to be detailed but she has been charged with aggravated abuse of public office, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail.
