Six-month-old triplets survive Hurricane Irma
British triplets just six months old are among the survivors of Hurricane Irma when it hit the British Virgin Islands.
Beatrice, Charlotte and Isabella were reportedly nursed in the safest part of the family home in Tortola when the storm hit.
According to reports, the girls’ parents, British citizens Kate Jackson and fiance Alex Ashman, 33 and 31, were with Kate’s 31-year-old sister Christine Jackson when the storm struck.
They managed to let their other sister, Claire Jackson, know they were safe in a brief phone call but apparently the home had been destroyed by the storm.
Claire told the Daily Mail, it was a “huge relief” to know they were safe but she was worried about the tiny triplets as Hurricane Irma is set to be followed by Hurricane Jose.
The 29-year-old, who was with her mother Anne, said Mr Ashman had called on what she thought was an emergency number because he couldn’t speak for very long.
“They would have gone into the back room of the house because it’s the most secure room. They will have hunkered down there,” she said adding: “I haven’t slept. These girls are so young. It’s probably the two worst days of my life.”
Meanwhile, two British sisters feared dead on the island Barbuda have been confirmed “alive and well”.
Asha Frank, 29, and 27-year-old Afiya Frank are now helping with evacuation efforts in the area, their auntie tweeted.
She wrote: “Alive and well and helping organise the evacuation effort. #Barbuda. That’s my girls. We now know that they are safe and unharmed.
