Extradition proceedings underway in Dubai as police close in on Ibrahims in international drug bust

Extradition proceedings have started in Dubai to bring home five Australians, including Michael and Fadi Ibrahim, arrested over an international crime syndicate.

Michael Ibrahim, the son of Kings Cross identity John Ibrahim, is accused of helping orchestrate the delivery of two tonnes of drugs to Sydney.

Fadi Ibrahim is accused of providing payments for the shipments from Dubai and Europe.

The extradition proceedings are expected to take 60 days. They are due to appear in court in November.

On Tuesday, police conducted raids across Sydney, as part of an international drug bust that seizing 1.8 tonnes of ecstasy, 136kg of cocaine, 15kg of methamphetamines and $5.45 million in cash.

John Ibrahim's son, Daniel Taylor, 26, was among the nine arrested and was charged over his alleged role in transferring $2.25 million for the purchase of tobacco.

Ibrahim's girlfriend, Sarah Budge, was charged with illegally possessing a Glock pistol after it was found at her home.

She was not charged in relation to the drug-smuggling syndicate but faced court on firearms and ammunition charges.

Both her and Taylor were granted bail on Wednesday on strict conditions.


Four other men allegedly involved in the crime syndicate were refused bail.
